The app "Beste Reste" is intended primarily for the recycling of food. It is intended to help the user to utilize food that one already has at home. The aim of the app is to raise awareness of the sustainable use of food and to reduce food waste.
The conceptual redesign of an existing mobile application with a focus on the user, their needs and the context of use. The revision of the interaction concept and the visual design were part of the requirement.

initial situation
The app has gaps in its design and objectives, such as centering on food recycling. It is also very unmanageable and has an unclear structure, which does not ensure intuitive use of the app.
The new concept is for example based with the help of flexible recipes, which the user can exchange ingredients, we expanded the principle of leftover utilization in order to be able to use the recipes optimally. The results of the user tests showed that the recipes could not be used without going to the supermarket. Therefore, we also created recipe categories, such as "Alleinspieler", which should allow cooking with one ingredient. The general knowledge about food should also help to influence the user with its handling in the long term.

To support the non-profit app, we created an icon family that allows adding new recipes without much effort.
